What GPS system does a good job at calculating basic routes?

Hi Guys,
I'm on a tight budget this year but really want to buy my dad a good gift for the Holidays. He needs a basic GPS that can just do basic routes around SoCal and some NorCal. I just want something reliable and easy to use. I also need to keep the cost low.

Any tips and advice would be really appreciated.

Happy Holidays!

Thanks,
Gina

Garmin is the best gps system in my opinion. You may pay a little more for it over Magellan and Tomtom but it is worth is faster route calculations, finds the satellites faster, doesn't crash as much, etc...On top of that Garmin's map updates are cheaper too.
The Nuvi 205 has a 4.5 out of 5 star rating among the customers that bought it. It is definitely worth checking out. It is an entry level GPS so it doesn't have all the extras such as bluetooth and stuff but it also keeps the price reasonable. About $ 130
