I'm really lost. I'm building a boat navigation lock and I have all the materials but I dunno how to drain the water from one end to another.

The surfaces of the waters have to differ in depth. Then you build the lock between them.
To move the boat from the low side, you would sail it into the lock, close it off, then pump water in until it is level with the higher side, then open the lock at that end and sail out.
Pump the water out of the lock if you want to go from the higher to the lower level.
